Sleeping Fox

I have always been drawn to foxes at rest. There is something quietly extraordinary about seeing an animal so associated with alertness and cunning entirely surrendered to sleep — curled tight, tail wrapped around, the world temporarily irrelevant. This painting came from a series of studies I made of foxes in repose, and it is the one I keep returning to. There is a vulnerability to it that I find deeply affecting.

Working in watercolour, I was interested in the way the fox’s coat holds so many colours at once — the deep russet, the pale cream of the chest, the dark tips of the ears — and how sleep softens all of it into something almost abstract. The background is kept deliberately spare, so the eye settles entirely on the animal and the quiet intimacy of the moment.

The Print

Sleeping Fox is a contemporary limited edition fine art print, reproduced from my original watercolour painting. Each print is produced on 315gsm acid-free archival quality watercolour paper, chosen for its exceptional longevity and its ability to hold the subtle washes and fine detail of the original work.

This is a signed edition of 250. Your print is hand-signed on the front and comes complete with a signed certificate of provenance.

Available in A4, A3, A2, and A1. Each print is supplied in a sealed cellophane wrapper. Please note: A2 prints are sent rolled in a sturdy cardboard tube for maximum protection.

All prints are supplied unmounted and unframed. The warm, earthy tones of this piece suit a simple white or off-white mount in a natural wood or dark frame — keeping the focus on the fox and the quiet mood of the painting.
